Partial closure of Sandalwood Road in Kuils River commences today

02 February 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise residents and road users to expect traffic delays along Sandalwood Road in Kuils River. This is due to the temporary closure of between Peperboom Street and Saxdowns Road from today, 2 February 2025, until Saturday, 30 May 2026, to accommodate major infrastructure upgrades. The work includes the dualling of the Saxdowns Road / Sandalwood Road intersection and the construction of a new eastern leg linking Boschendal Road to the Haasendal development.

‘To keep Cape Town moving, the City continues to invest in critical road upgrades and carefully planned alternative routes. Construction can be disruptive and I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience during this period. The City will ensure that appropriate traffic accommodation measures remain in place at all times, allowing through-traffic between Bottelary Road and Langverwacht Road to continue as smoothly as possible. Access to Sandalwood Road will remain available via Church Street and Amandel Road. Clear road closure and detour signage is already in place to assist motorists with navigating the area safely and with minimal inconvenience,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Road Quintas.

Roadworks will be carried out from 07:00 to 17:30, Monday to Saturday, weather permitting.

Construction areas will be clearly demarcated on each day to help manage traffic flow and ensure the safety of all road users. While some congestion is expected during working hours, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and make use of alternative routes where possible.

Map of partial closure route is available here.
